Taliban ban Afghan women from university education

On the 20th of December Taliban banned women from afghanistan from university education. Earlier women were banned from going to secondary schools as well as going to gym, parks, funfairs, public baths. Women were also banned from traveling without a male relative. Women are terrified for their future. They are paid a small salary after they were pushed from their jobs, to stay at home. Ramiz Alakbarov, who is the secretary general’s deputy special representative for Afghanistan showed his concern on Twitter for the future of Afghanistan, if women are blocked from education. This is happening, because of the takeover of Afghanistan by the Islamist last year in August. I think I wouldn't know what to do, if i was in the Afghan women position. I feel really sorry for them, but personally I don't know if there is any way to help them. I also agree with the secretary general’s deputy special representative for Afghanistan, about the future of Afghanistan, if women are not allowed ...

Banksy in Ukraine

Banksy, a famous graffiti artist, posted a photo of his artwork in Ukraine, Brodianka. The photo he posted showed a gymnast balancing on the ruins of a building. Brodianka was bombed at the beginning of the war and a lot of civil were killed as well as a lot of buildings were destroyed. The graffiti of the gymnast isn’t the only one people found in Ukraine. There is also graffiti of two people during a judo match- one of them resembles Putin, who is losing and the other one is a young boy, which might give people a hint about the artist's view on Putin. And the third graffiti showed two children using a metal tank trap as a seesaw. In my opinion Banksy has an impact on people, he is famous all around the world so him doing this type of graffiti in Ukraine can put even more spotlight to the current war that is happening there. Also his graffiti shows that he supports Ukraine and not Russia, which may influence others to start supporting Ukraine more. Link: https://www.theguardian.co...

Climate activists glue themselves to Goya paintings

This week, climate activists from a group called "Extinction Rebellion" glued themselves to frames of two Goya paintings- " The Naked Maja" and "The Clothed Maja" after writing "+1,5°C" on the wall between the paintings. They say they did it to share awareness of global warming and its consequences and they say they won't stop until people pay more attention to this climate problem. This group isn't the only one to target famous paintings in Europe, there have been a lot of similar protests lately. Luckily no paintings were damaged, because they all have glass that protects them, only the frames were flawed. In my opinion, doing this kind of protest is not really putting the groups in a good light, as well as the problems they are fighting to fix. They make the issue  have more spotlight, but personally I don't think I would support a group that is fighting in this kind of way, even if I think the reason they are fighting for is a va...

Can you learn a language in your sleep?

Sleep learning was first shown in cartoons which started to interest more and more people that wanted to know if you actually can learn while sleeping. Finally thanks to neuroimaging we know that the brain in some phases of sleep can actually pick up some information. They tested it out on people who wanted to quit smoking and 35% of them actually quit after they mixed the smell of rotten fish with the smell of cigarettes and presented it to them during the time they slept. Then they tested if they can teach people japaneses while sleeping. During the day they played a sound of animal and an image of them to the person learning then when they were sleeping they played the sound of animal and what are they called in japanese and in the morning they played what the animal is called with two images to choose from and they observed that the participants chose the wright picture with their skills rather than luck. That means that it is possible to learn language while sleeping, but they rec...

Just stop oil activists- tomato soup incident

Just stop oil activists are currently trying to stop people from using fossil fuel. They are known for doing a lot of damage while trying to prove what they stand for. Recently that caused a lot of traffic by standing on the road and almost damaging a piece of art worth about 40 million dollars. Three activists- two women, one man( who was recording)-went to National Gallery in London and poured a tomato soup on Vincent Van Gogh painting called "Sunflowers" and then proceeded to glu their hands to the wall while asking the other visitors what is more important life or art. People were shocked and soon the police arrived and arrested them. Fortunately the painting wasn't damaged but the frame was there. I think they are fighting for good reason but the way they are doing it in a bad way. The attention they are getting is not doing them a favor, and I think that even when someone is interested and thinks they are fighting for a good reason, they don't want to join them,...

How to sleep better and reduce back pain

Sleeping is really important, so how you sleep is crucial for your well being. A physiotherapist who used to have back pain from bad sleeping revealed how to improve your sleep position. First she recommends stretching before you go to bed. This can help with your blood and oxygen flow, plus your body can get siff from static position when you sleep. You should also try exercising during the day. Another tip is to try and find a mattress that will suit you, because a mattress that is too soft or too hard can be bad depending on your body. Also your pillow position is important, some people that sleep on their side put one pillow under their head and one between their legs and it helps them reduce their back pain. The last tip is to try and relax before going to bed. 30 minutes before you sleep you should do something that will relax your mind and body. In my opinion sleeping is really important and I can see it, because my mood depends on how good and how much I have slept. The be...

How to cut down on plastic?

Cutting down on plastic is not easy, but there are ways you can do it. Bringing a reusable bag is a good start for less plastic production. You can even find bags that can fold and they don't take up much space. And when you're shopping you should try looking for products that aren't wrapped in plastic, and this applies for both food and cosmetics. Bringing your own food to work or school is better than buying a takeaway everyday. It's cheaper and more eco-friendly. Also carrying a cup you can refill is a good idea. A lot of coffee shops even offer small discounts when you bring your own cup. In my opinion this topic is really popular and important but still not many people care. Especially when it comes to fast fashion and buying groceries wrapped in plastic. I feel like fast fashion is really popular these days and a lot of famous people promote buying cheap, plastic clothing. I think it's not a bad thing to buy stuff from those shops, because sometimes you want t...
